Greek mythology... does it still have an impact on our society? Most people have forgotten about it though
it still remains intriguing when given thought. To many, the mythical world of Greece is dead; buried along with its creators. From gods to people, fact or fiction, the question that still remains is why many people reject the culture of ancient Greece? For example, Triton. An image of King Triton from Disney's Little Mermaid may pop into one's mind, but there is a Greek myth behind this name. What happened? Why is it just something in the back of a mind, now? Many people argue that the old religion is dead. Religions of today, such as Christianity have taken over society as we know it. When the name Icarus is uttered, a question mark would appear. The majority of people don't speak of this character or the myth anymore, therefore it's fame decreases to next to nothing. If looked up in the dictionary, the word "myth" is stated as fiction; a tale of extraordinary beings. Can people believe everything that they are told? No, because proof isn't provided. Griffin is a perfect example. It is pretty difficult to find evidence of a creature which is said to be half falcon and half lion. As years pass, people grow more independant. They lean towards newer religions that suit their lifestyles best. The belief of the newer religions are based on a monotheistic theory. They only believe in one god. Greek mythology is that of a lost religion. Stories and legends that were told have been passed down. Through the years, each myth has probably been reworked. (e.g. Smyrna could have been having a love affair with her dog, which led to dad, which led to father.) The point is that Greek culture, along with the art of storytelling, could be practiced more often.
